Prof. Sarath B Tennakoon, Research Fellow
Professor Sarath B Tennakoon is the Emeritus Professor of Power Electronic Systems at Staffordshire University (SU), UK and Visiting Professor in Power Electronic Systems at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU)Africa. Professor Tennakoon has served as the Director of the Centre for Energy Efficient Systems, the Head of Engineering Research centre, the Director of Engineering Post Graduate Research (PGR) students in Engineering and the Acting Head of Department of Engineering at SU. Professor Tennakoon has served as a committee member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) North West centre, Chairman of the IEEE Power Electronics Society UKRI Chapter (PELS-UKRI), and a Committee member of the United Kingdom’s Engineering Professors Council(ERC). Professor Tennakoon continue to serve in the International Steering committee (ISC) of the European Power Electronics Association(EPE) and recently joined the International Steering committee of the Southern power electronics conference(SPEC) by invitation and will be the Chairman of the 2021 SPEC due to be held in Kigali. Professor Tennakoon’s research in power electronics is primarily in the application to Energy systems and has resulted in many published papers. Professor Tennakoon’s current research is focussed on grid integration of renewable energy, spanning energy storage, wind and solar energy, HVDC and DC grids. Professor Tennakoon has supervised over 20 PhD students to successful completion and all his research projects were funded mainly by industry, EPSRC case awards and KTP awards. The total value of grants received is approximately 2million Sterling Pounds.
